What happens to people over 80 who are quite fit and healthy and need insurance?

   What sort of cover is available for those over 80 years of age who are quite fit and healthy?

   Responses will be much appreciated.

   Normally people at the age of 80 Yrs are considered high risk bearing profile. Insurer are some what reluctant covering such high risk bearing proposals.

   However, if, the following tests are done and reports are found +ve the insurer would consider the proposal:

   Test to be undergone:-
   1.Blood Sugar (PP and fasting)
   2.Urine Sugar,
   3.Blood Pressure,
   4.ECG,
   5.Eco-cardiography
   6.Eye -check-up including retinoscopy +
   7. MDs Report" cerifying the physical health of the proposer.

   Pl. be noted that insurance companies are offering very narrow based cover for people of the age group of 65 and above.

   Sometime the sum insured is limited to maximum extent of Rs. 100,000-200,000 and sometime the cover is granted with specific exclusions and with extra premium loading also.

   Even there are instances where insurance companies have granted insurance cover without any limitations and exclusions at standard rates.

   And on the other hand there are stories narrating that insurers having declined such proposal assuming it to be a high or bad risk.

   Good to know that you are fit even at the age of 80. However, finding the right health insurance for senior citizens in India is a bit difficult since health insurance companies are reluctant to offer them cover due to higher chances of a claim. Health Insurance providers who do provide coverage to senior citizens charge higher premium comparatively subject to medical reports.

   However, few health insurance providers like Max Bupa have revolutionized health insurance in India for senior citizens with feature like ‘No age restriction for enrollment’. Also the premium payment cost is little influenced by the age. Apart from this, the policy also offers other features like, assured renewal for life, cashless facility at quality hospital, pre and post hospitalization medical expenses, highest sum insured of upto Rs 50 lakh and many more.
