I will be traveling to UK shortly and am looking for buying travel insurance. I have read reviews about the Travel insurance provider and most reviews are negative. Now, at times, it could be a problem with an individual claim process as well.

Could you please guide me with information about Travel insurance provider who are acceptable in the service and claim process?

I have seen HDFC, Bajaj Allianz and TATA AIG so far but am yet to make a decision. I would appreciate your help.

If you are not comfortable with the private insurance players. You can go for plans offered by National Insurance, United India Ins., New India Assurance, The Oriental Ins.co. (PSU Companies)

Very true private players are working hard to have pro-active claim handling system at their end. Note that the stories revolving around covers only one-sided aspects. Some time the insurers are helpless as they are not supported with the required documents and relevant information to process the claims pending for want of compliance from insured's end.

Even the PSU companies would have some stories like the private ones have, But their system is overall proven and more reliable. Hence you can choose any of the above PSU Companies.

While you choose your insurer do also check whether the policy covers for Trip Cancellation and delay of flight cover. It is really worth having such covers.

Further premium cost will depend upon the No. of days and the Sum Insured. Do not calculate the premium only look for a better coverage with standard sum insured, is my advise to you.

Any ways, Wish you a happy and safe journey.

    Thank you both.

I am fine with private insurance provider also. I did take the negative reviews with a pinch of salt as I said earlier. I understand that at times the people cribbing are the ones at fault.

Is there any Private Travel Insurance provider you recommend?

I will not recommend any company here, but want to show you some tips so that you can get better travel insurance

So if you want to have the complete facilities which travel insurance is providing then consider on following points:
    1. Never go for cheap or bad impact insurance companies; if you will go for the cheap and bad impact companies, you have to face many problems to making and getting a claim.
    2. Read each and every point written in their policy details carefully, it would be helpful for you as well as for your policy.
    3. Confirm your policy by receiving the insurance policy certificate and other documents they are providing.
    4. Assure by comparing different insurance companies premium rates that you are providing fair premium amount or more than the real amount.
    5. Be in contact with your travel agent from whom you were bought the policy. Their contact will help you out to make a claim and get the claim.
    6. Always carry your driving license and other relative documents along with you while on backpacking.
    7. Check whether your policy cover is appropriate or not?
    8. If you use to be a backpacker twice more than two times in a year then it will better to go for multi-trip travel insurance.
    9. You should buy a policy which can provide the international travel insurance
