Motor Claims

 

Motor insurance policy provide cover for the following occurrences:-

  • Accidental external damage to the vehicle
  • Legal liability for loss or damage cause to third party (bodily injury or death and there property)
  • Loss or damage to electrical and non-electrical accessories
  • The policy holder (the Insured) and any named or unnamed passenger(s)
  • Legal liability to persons employed (paid drivers/cleaners/workmen)

 

 

 

 

Documents required

For Accident

  • Name of driver driving the vehicle at time of accident
  • Date, time and place of accident
  • Brief note of accident, Vehicle registration number and policy number
  • Note the number of other vehicle involved in accident
  • Insured name and contact number
  • Vehicle type and model
  • Brief description of accident

For Third Party Claim

  • Claim form duly signed by the insured
  • Police FIR copy
  • Driving license copy
  • Policy copy
  • RC copy of the vehicle
  • Stamp required in case of company registered vehicle’s original documents 

For Car theft claim

  • Claim form duly signed by the insured
  • All sets of keys/ service booklet/ warranty card
  • Previous Insurance details – Policy No. , insuring office/co. , period of insurance
  • Driving license copy
  • Original policy document
  • Original FIR copy of the complete theft report*
  • Final report - A no-trace report from the police saying that the vehicle cannot be located.

* Note- Make the FIR within 24 hrs of theft

After Registering the claim

The surveyor will contact you within 24 hours of registering the claim Surveyor will inspect the vehicle at workshop .It is advisable to be present in workshop during surveyor’s visit. Submit the following documents to the garage/dealer/surveyor

  • Filled claim form with all mandatory fields.
  • Copy of insurance-policy/ cover note.
  • Copy of registration certificate, tax receipt, sales invoice.
  • Copy of motor driving license (with original for verification) of the person driving the vehicle at the time of accident.
  • FIR / Police Panchanama (For theft/third party property damage/death/bodily injury/Major Loses/)
  • Estimate of repair from the repairer

The surveyor will get the estimate for the repairs of the vehicle.

If the loss is not much, settlement of claims will be made at spot.
After completion of repair at the preferred garage, insurance co. will make payment of the loss directly to the garage Insured is required to settle the bills and submit to TPA or insurance co. for claim settlement if the car is not repaired at the preferred garage.

Claim settlement will take approximately 7 days from the date of submit of final document, provided all document are in order.

Do’s & Don’t

Do’s

  • It is advisable to be present in workshop during surveyor’s visit and provide him all the original documents for verification.
  • Information about the approved claim amount and deductions on account of depreciation/excess if any will be made available to the garage before delivery of the vehicle. Insured may ask for the same from repairer.

Don’t

  • Do not make any promise with third party in case of an accident involving third party.
  • Do not leave the vehicle unattended at the spot. Shift the vehicle safely to the side of the road to avoid further damage
  • Do not proceed with accident repairs before the vehicle has been inspected by the surveyor.
  • Do not start the engine, in case the vehicle is flooded with water as it can damage your engine and the claim will not be payable

Circumstances under which a claim may be repudiated

  • Where an unlicensed person was driving.
  • Where the vehicle insured in question has a change of ownership.
  • Where the claim was not submitted within the acceptable period.
  • Where the vehicle is being used without the Insured’s consent.
  • The vehicle is being used for unauthorized purposes.
  • Using the vehicle for drunk driving.
