What is Travel Insurance?
A Travel Insurance is purchased by an overseas traveller to insure yourslf against travel-related risk like loss of passport, liability risk, medical expense, lossof baggage, personal accident etc.
Business & Holiday Policy
This policy is designed for business class and family who travel for 15-20 days.It covers one trip in a year.
Student Policy
This policy is designed for students who travel outside India for higher education purpose. This covers one trip in a year.
Corporate frequent traveller Policy
This policy is designed for business class who frequently move out for there business trip. This covers several trips within a year.
The scope of cover and scale of benefits differ between insurance companies. You should shop around and compare the policies available to ensure that you purchase a policy which best meets your requirements.
Personal accident or death: Insurance company protects you world wide its of no need if you have life insurance.
Emergency medical assistant: While traveling medical expense due to accident or sickness are covered by insurance company.
Dental treatment: The policy pays for immediate Dental Treatment occurring due to sudden acute pain during the course of an overseas Insured Journey. Cover the cost of treatment to natural teeth due to an injury.
Loss of checked-in-baggage or passport: Insurance company compensate for the loss inccured.
Baggage delay: Insurance company compensate for puchase of personal products due to delay in arrival of checked in baggage
Personal liability: Compensation paid for damage to third party resulting from death, bodily injury or damage to property; caused involuntarily by the insured.
Trip delay: Expense occured due to trip cancellation or delay are reimbursed by insurance company
In-hospital Indemnity: Travel Guard pays a Daily benefit for each day you are an inpatient in a hospital due to injury or sickness.
Hijacking: In case you being hijacked while travelling, you would be paid a distress allowance.
Medical Evacuation and Repatriation: In the event of medical emergency or accidental death the insurance company reimburse transportation expense to send the insured to his home country.
What does the policy not cover (Exclusions)
Travel insurance protect your belonging while you are in abroad, but there are some exclusion that are not covered under the policy
Loss or damage to money, securities, documents, tickets, jewellery, watches etc.
Pre-existing illness and complication arising out of it.
Pregnancy or any complications like miscarriage
Participating in hazardous sports like race driving, mountaineering etc
Traveling against the advice of physician for obtaining medical treatment.
If your passport get loss and you donot inforn the authorities or it get lost in public place.
Travelling for the purpose of availing treatment
War; Terrorism; Illegal Acts;
Metal disorder, stress or depression
Suicide or self injury or insanity
HIV AIDS, Venereal disease, using alcohol or drugs
Can I purchase a policy if I am under 18 years and not traveling with an adult? You cannot be covered under the policy.
How to get claim from insurance company?
The very first step is to get in touch with the selling agent and register the case with insurance company or Third Party Administrator(TPA).
Submit the claim form along with additional Documents required such as the original policy, police report, medical report, Indian embassy report
to insurance company or TPA.
Documents required
In the case of medical expense- Doctors medical report, Bills,
Prescription, Hospital report including discharge card, Test report,
Copy of passport & visa with entry & exit stamp.
In case of loss of passport - Police report, Proof of expendicture in
obtaining new passport, Letter covering the details of passport.
In case of personal liability- Jugement of court, witness statement, Copy of passport & visa with entry & exit stamp.
In case of loss or delay of baggage- Police report, Property
irregularity report (PIR) from airline authorities, Baggage receipt,
Money receipt of essential items purchased, Copy of passport & visa
with entry & exit stamp
In case of personal accident- Police report, Post mortem report, Dealth certificate, Medical report,
What should be done in case of damage or loss?
You must do all proper things in order to recover, your lost belongings:
Notify The Authorities: Local police, hotel, transportation terminal authorities, Indian Embassy if needed, Insurance company.
What is the minimum duration for which insurance can be purchased?
It can be purchased for minimum five days.
What is a deductible?
Theres some expense
paid to insurance company when claim arrives by policy holder.
Do i need to carry the policy along with me ?
Yes you should carry the policy while traveling it would make it handy once the claim arrive.
When does baggage delay come into force ?
If your baggage delay for more than 12 hours after you arrive your destination then insurance company covers the expense of buying essential items like toiletries, medication and clothing.
What's the time limit for making a claim?
In case, of reimbursement TPA authentication is required and all the medical records supporting the claim should be submitted within 30 days after the completion of treatment.
In case, of death the documents can be submitted after the person is buried.
